The South Holland Public Library is looking for an energetic Public Services Librarian to join our collaborative team, where flexibility, creativity, and teamwork are highly valued.
Responsibilities:
- Delivers friendly, courteous, and accurate assistance to all patrons.
- Strives to provide efficient and exceptional customer service with professionalism and care.
- Provides reference, research, readers’ advisory and other assistance to users at the Reference Desk.
- Performs duties such as collection management, selection, and weeding in assigned areas.
- Develops, schedules and presents programs for adults.
- Assists and guides users in navigating the online catalog, internet, databases, and other library resources, while troubleshooting and supporting users with printing and faxing services.
- Advocates Library initiatives, programing and services through creative displays and other promotional materials.
Necessary Knowledge:
- Demonstrates strong customer service skills with the ability to interact respectfully and knowledgeably with the public.
- Competency in providing readers’ advisory and reference services.
- Skilled in adult collection development and adult programming.
- Must also be skilled in using MS Office Suite, Google Workplace and Canva.
- Able to reach, bend, stoop and lift up to 20 pounds and access library areas and materials.
Qualifications:
- MLS from an ALA-accredited program. Public Library experience preferred.
- Reads, understands, writes legibly and speaks articulately in English. Bilingual skills are a plus.
- Position requires flexible scheduling to accommodate day, evening and Saturday hours. No Sundays.
- Access to transportation.
This position is part-time at 25 hours per week. Benefits include IMRF participation and paid time off.
Starting salary is $ 25.30/ hour or $32,890 annually.
