Assistant Director - Full Time
The South Holland Public Library is looking for an innovative individual with experience as a Library supervisor, strong customer service and communication skills to assist in advocating for the Library, supporting staff members and serving the diverse South Holland Community. Interested candidates must be a team player, comfortable making independent decisions, and be flexible in scheduling to attend community and professional networking events.
Responsibilities and Duties: (illustrative not exhaustive)
Financial
- Responsible for accounts payable including obtaining invoice approval, assigning appropriate expense fund, and entering expenses in Year-to-Date Expenditure report.
- Submits monthly summary and invoices to the Village Accounts Payable Clerk for check processing and distribution.
- Responsible for cash receipts including auditing and depositing monies from fines, lost materials payments, donations, copier/print/fax monies, notary fees, and other miscellaneous funds; and entering revenue in Year-to-Date Revenue report.
- Prepares all financial reports requested by the Library Director for the Board and Department Managers.
- Assists the Library Director with preparation of the annual budget.
- Attends all Library Trustee and Committee meetings
Organizational
- Acts as person-in-charge with other management team members in the absence of the Library Director.
- Hires, trains, evaluates, supervises and manages Maintenance, Custodial and Business Administrative staff.
- Prepares and administers state and federal grants as needed.
- Assists the Library Director in the development of library policies and makes recommendations for change as necessary.
- Assists Library Director in planning, researching and developing majorprojects.
- Assists Library Director in managing departments in the absence of department manager.
- Assists in Library-Wide staff training initiatives and programs.
- Assists the Library Director in the development of departmental goals and objectives to meet Strategic goal benchmarks
Community
- Represents the Library in the community and at professional organizations.
- Maintains appropriate communication and attitude with trustees, library staff, users and vendors
- Assists in maintaining and promoting a safe and positive library atmosphere.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Extensive knowledge of the principles of library service.
- Extensive knowledge of Library policies, service standards and procedures.
- Strong administration, problem-solving and personnel management skills.
- Knowledge of Library budgets, levies and account billing
- nowledge of library automation systems
- Ability to set priorities, exercise initiative, make independent decisions and exercise discretion with patrons and staff.
- Skills in developing and facilitating team-based planning and collaborative problem solving.
- Ability to empathize and relate to patron needs.
- Ability to assess the needs of the community in relation to library services.
- Ability to pay attention to detail and handle multiple tasks at the same time.
Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Library Science and/or Business Administration
- Five (5) years library supervisory experience or two (2) years public library director or assistant library director experience.
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends.
- Willingness to be on call for emergencies.
- Access to transportation
Position is full-time at 36 hours per week. Benefits include health insurance, paid time off, and IMRF.
Starting salary is $54,561 DOQ.

Public Services Librarian - Full Time
The South Holland Public Library is seeking a Public Services Librarian to work in a team environment where consultation, flexibility, creativity, collaboration and cooperation is essential.
Responsibilities:
- Provides friendly, courteous and accurate services to all users.
- Works effectively to provide efficient and exemplary customer service.
- Provides reference, research, readers’ advisory and other assistance to users at the Information Desk.
- Participates in collection development, selection, and weeding in assigned areas.
- Develop, schedule and presents programs for adults.
- Assists, troubleshoots and trains users in the use of online catalog, the Internet, databases, copiers, printers and other library resources and equipment.
- Markets library materials and programs by creating displays and marketing materials.
Necessary Knowledge:
- Ability to work with the public in a courteous and tactful manner and possesses good customer service skills.
- Competency in providing readers’ advisory and reference services.
- Skilled at adult collection development and adult programming.
- Must also be skilled at using the MS Office Suite, software and Internet applications.
- Able to reach, bend, stoop and lift up to 20 pounds and access library areas and materials.
Qualifications:
- MLS from an ALA-accredited program. Public Library experience preferred.
- Reads, understands, writes legibly and speaks articulately in English. Bi-Lingual a plus.
- Position requires day, evening and Saturday hours. No Sundays.
- Access to transportation.
Position is a full-time at 36 hours per week position. Benefits include health insurance, IMRF, and paid time off.
Starting salary is $46,800 DOQ.

Circulation Clerk - Part Time
The South Holland Public Library is seeking a friendly enthusiastic, hard-working individual with great customer service skills to work in our fast-paced team environment.
This position is part-time with an average work week of 18 hours. This includes days, evenings and Saturdays.
Responsibilities
- Staffs the Circulation Desk 75-100% of the scheduled work time while providing outstanding customer service to our users.
- Checks materials in and out, issues library cards, collects fines, renews, retrieves and shelves materials.
- Performs all automated circulation functions accurately and efficiently.
- Handles routine issues and answers a variety of questions.
Necessary Knowledge
- Ability to learn computerized circulations functions and procedures.
- Ability to work courteously with the public and exercise discretion.
- Possess basic mouse and keyboard skills.
- Ability to answer the phone.
- Ability to operate a cash register and make change.
- Ability to stand for an extended period of time, reach, bend, stoop and lift up to 20 pounds and access library areas and materials.
Qualifications
- Flexible and reliable schedule
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Customer service skills required.
- Library experience preferred.
- Spanish language skills a bonus
- Must have access to transportation.
Position is part-time, up to 18 hours per week. Salary starting at $13.00 per hour.
